How to change your account password (NetID)

After changing your password, you must uninstall and reinstall the AirVandalGold network on all devices you connect to the university’s wireless network, including phones, tablets, and laptops.

You will need to go to the WiFi settings page to ‘forget’ or ‘delete saved networks’ for your device for AirVandalGold. Any applications on your smartphone that store passwords should also be updated (eg Outlook or email clients).

Reset your NetID password

Step 1:

Visit https://help.uidaho.edu and log in with your NetID username and password. The first screen you see is the Home Screen.

If your password has expired, you can still use the account management page, but you will not be able to use other services such as VandalMail. If you haven’t set up your security profile yet, you will be greeted with a pop-up window asking you to set up your security profile.

You can also disable security profiles. However, this means that any time you forget your password, you will need outside assistance to reset it. Students must visit the Student Technology Center in person.

Step 2:

Once on the account management page, click “Change Password” under “Password” in the left menu.

Make sure the account you want to set a password for is selected.

Step 3:

Select “Enable secure MFA and longer password expiry” if you only use the DUO hardware token or the DUO mobile app on your phone for verification. With this option, you don’t need to change your password again.

Otherwise, select “Disable secure MFA and shorter password expiration” if you need to use voice dialing or SMS text messaging for verification. If you select this option, your password will expire after 400 days.

Enter a new password for your account that is at least one character different from all previous passwords. When you enter your password, the system will tell you which conditions you meet and which you don’t.

Be sure to enter your password completely before determining if it meets the requirements. The password must be at least 12 characters long and cannot contain the three consecutive letters of your name, username or email address.

After all password requirements are met, you can click Set New Password and the system will set a NetID password.

Step 4:

Finally, make sure you are greeted with a “Successful” message letting you know the change was successful. If you encounter a problem, contact your Technology Solutions Partner or Student Technology Center.
